The Tough Stuff Workshops

Surf Life Saving Northern Region continues to strive to build a transparent culture around safeguarding and child safety. It is the duty of SLSNR and Clubs to ensure that all children placed under the responsibility of the organisation are able to participate in educational, sporting and lifesaving activities in a safe and secure environment. 

Kylie Ryan has a clinical background in Mental Health Social Work, and over the past 20 years has specialised in the areas of suicide prevention, sexual violence prevention, family violence prevention, bullying and harassment prevention and alcohol and drug related harm.  The Tough Stuff specialises in facilitating professional education in schools, clubs and workplaces – raising tough conversations in a safe and fun way.

Understanding Mental Health

On completion of this workshop participants will:

  • Have a good understanding of how mental ill health can impact club members.
  • Know how to have a conversation with someone you are concerned about.
  • Know how to get support services in place for those who require it.
  • Understanding self-harm and suicide risk and how to respond.

Prevention of Sexual Harmful Behaviors

On completion of this workshop participants will:

  • Have a good understanding of sexual abuse and offending behaviours
  • Feel confident in responding to disclosures of sexual abuse/violence
  • Understand concepts of teenage relationships, consent and how to promote health relationships.
  • Prevention of sexual violence/abuse in a club setting.

There will be 2 courses run for the 2019/202 season

1. Sunday 17th November 2019 @ Auckland Marine Rescue Centre

2. Sunday 8th March 2020 @ Auckland Marine Rescue Centre
